Check out my new clothes! Aunt Patty was busy yesterday...she said something about a new time suck...she'll miss me when I'm gone.
Notice over my right shoulder is California on the globe. Aunt Patty likes CA because it is so diverse...mountains, valleys, desert, ocean, forests, big cities, sleepy farm towns, Disneyland!, Hollywood, San Francisco, wine country...she says it's a beautiful state and we will concentrate on the Central Valley. There is a trip planned to the coast...I can't wait!
Today we walked around outside, and I asked why her house doesn't have bricks or stone. It's because of earthquakes..
houses in CA are built with wood lathe - strips - and covered with wire and stucco...if there is an earthquake, the house will sway back and forth, rather than crumble down. Also, the houses are bolted to a concrete slab, so they won't slide off...isn't that funny?
If there are bricks on a house, the bricks have holes in the center, with rebar holding them upright. When Aunt Patty first moved to CA, and she felt an earthquake, she said it was a little scary, unnerving. But you get used to them, and she likes them better than tornadoes, hurricanes, ice, and snow. See the lemons...everything grows here. She isn't happy about the water situation, everybody in CA is worried about the drought. Everybody is very happy when it rains! Not us in Charlotte!
This is Flash, their Corgi...she tried to eat me...Aunt Patty says all she thinks about is food.

And this is Lili...she didn't try to eat me, but Patty said we were being adventurous by invading her space...
Okay, that's it for now...there are big doings here tonight...a Hanukkah party with the boys from next door...we'll light the Hanukkiah candles, play dreidel, eat latkes and turkey, drink wine...lots to get ready. I'll show you some pictures tomorrow.
This is Flat Stanley, signing off from Bakersfield, CA!
